Pirate Treasure Chest Birthday Cake
My girls love pirates, reminds them of trips to Disney and their favorite movies! So we had a lot of fun carving this pirate treasure chest.
Worked hard to achieve a real wood grain effect with marble fondant, which I then hand painted. The bottom tier is yellow vanilla cake with chocolate cream filling and the top tier is red velvet cake with French vanilla cream.
The cake is covered in chocolate fondant and decorated with edible jewels, cameos, broches, pearls, a flask, gold cross and chocolate coins. Also we painted a map with "x marks the spot" to locate the treasure! And yes, it was all edible. Isn't cake decorating great?
For a party at the Brazilian Grill in Elizabeth NJ.

Absolutely amazing cake - the details are incredible!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I was a little obsessive about that wood grain! And Simon enjoyed doing the map, so we got quite carried away in the end. It was fun though.
