Gift Box with Black and White Ribbons

We created a two tier black and white cake for a bridal shower in Randolph NJ. Chocolate cake with Oreo Cream filling is the perennial favorite of this customer.

One tier is embossed with a floral design and the second tier is piped in Cornelli Lace. The two gift boxes are stacked, tied with a black fondant ribbon and topped with a display of black and white bows.

Louis Vuitton Handbag Cake

Phew! We did it! The Louis Vuitton handbag cake turned out very smart. A lot of layers of chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling and chocolate fondant too!

As we assembled the cake and all the pieces came together it really did start to look like the real thing. Now where did I put my car keys? Hopefully whoever eats the cake will find them!

Bugs and Bees Mini-cakes

It's Memorial Day weekend already, and the gardens in the Montrose Historic District are looking gorgeous, but now we have to cope with all the bugs!

However these little bugs and bees mini-cakes are just what kids love. This assortment includes the perennial favorite chocolate cake with oreo cream filling, as well as lemon cake with key lime filling for the young fruit fans. A happy looking fondant bug is settled on top of each one.

Now I need a good cup of Earl Grey tea before I get to work on the next cake order: a Louis Vuitton handbag!

Summertime Mini-Cake Assortment and Stand

I fell in love with this cupcake stand when I was visiting Austin Texas last April. It was perfect for a customer's barbecue in Millburn NJ.

The chocolate mini-cakes have a mint filling, they are covered in a light green fondant and are decorated on top with a light peach rose made of gumpaste. Each mini-cake has a yellow or green ribbon around the base to finish off the look.

Atlantic City Cards and Dice Cake

One of the lessons I must remember is never to throw my digital camera on the floor!

Fortunately my backup is the sketch I drew for my customer of a custom cake for her parents' 60th Wedding Anniversary party in Springfield NJ, that would play on the theme of their frequent trips Atlantic City.

This two tier vanilla cake had a chocolate ganache filling and the fondant colors reflected the black, white and red from a set of playing cards. Decorations included silver chocolate coins, gambling chips, colored roulette balls and cut our shapes from the card suits. We finally added several personal touches requested by the daughter, such as sugar paste figurines of the three grandchildren and even a set of eyeglasses!

Pure White Bow Cake

The bride requested a three tier pure white square cake and she placed special emphasis on maintaining simple lines. So we designed a series of fondant bows on the front of each tier and the top tier is crowned with an arrangement of looped bows, which had a touch of pearl dust to draw your focus to them. The cake is chocolate with Madagascar vanilla bean butter cream in two tiers, while the middle tier is pure white cake with chocolate mousse. We delivered it to the Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield NJ and the cake sat on a table with the 18th hole of this beautiful golf course as a backdrop.

Harley Davidson

A customer in Dover NJ wanted a custom cake for her Harley Davidson fanatic husband. I have seen many cake replica bikes, but she wanted something original that would appeal to her easy rider hubby. I thought the smooth lines of the fuel tank and bold Harley logo would work wonders and look striking. This chocolate cake has a white chocolate buttercream filling. The fondant was covered in silver sparkle dust to obtain the metallic sheen, and then completed with the elaborate task of cutting the stencils and hand painting the logo. Harley Davidson says its mission is to "fulfill dreams through the experience of motorcycling". I think that at Cake Fiction we aspire to the same by "creating edible dreams" for all our foodie fans!

Wedding Dress Cookie Favors for Bridal Shower

We made these wedding dress cookies as favors for a bridal shower on Long Island NY at the weekend. They are covered in white fondant, with a chocolate fondant bow at the waist. There are sugar flowers with glitter around the neck line and along the hem of the dress. (This cookie also looks very pretty in ivory colored fondant). Each cookie is individually wrapped in a transparent cellophane and tied with a chocolate brown colored ribbon.

Our customer wrote to us: "Just wanted to thank you on another beautiful creation with the cookies…. They were the hit of the party!"

Cascading Daisies Communion Cake

We have had requests for a lot of First Communion Cakes during April and May. I particularly like this one that we delivered to Maplewood NJ. It is a French vanilla cake with strawberry mousse filling, covered in a pale green fondant, with daisies cascading down the sides, finished off with a white bow and white ribbon around the base.

Our customer wrote: "The cake was brilliant and the perfect size, with enough left over for A to continue eating for a couple of days!"
