Chevy Avalanche Pickup Cake

I had fun making this cake replica of a black Chevy Avalanche pickup. Lots of detail and accessories to work on, and always thinking how to keep them to scale. The wheel hubs required special attention and the tire walls received an extra coat of food color spray paint. Inside is vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and raspberry jam. We made this for a surprise birthday party in Summit NJ.

  1. Wow! You did a great job on that truck! It looks awesome! Have you seen Mike McCarey's Cakenology Vol 1 DVD on how to make cars? It's a must for anyone that makes car cakes.

  3. I'll take a look at the Cakenology book, also appreciate the tip. We usually print out pictures with multiple angles of the vehicle, then work out the proportions and match them to scale. I also try to raise the car off the ground to get a more realistic perspective.
